I am interested in sustainable, bioavailable and environmentally friendly materials. During my PhD I focused on two main materials, Graphene and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC).

Graphene has high crystallinity from the pressure and temperature of the earth’s crust, producing high conductance. This wonder material is set to replace precious metals which are non-sustainable, as a cheap environmentally friendly mass producible alternative.

Cellulose nanocrystals are extracted from wood and other cellulose sources to isolate, negatively charged nano-rod aqueous dispersions which self-assemble into mesmerising structurally coloured films.

I am looking into processing the CNC dispersions to enable the highest quality production and means for mass production. I am also combining CNC with other bioavailable sustainable materials to produce new properties. I combine CNC and graphene for multiple end goals, including highly stable aqueous graphene inks and CNC films with a high contrast enabling ease of visualisation. The final goal is to produce organic structurally coloured materials with some conductivity.
